OMB, DOC to create Advisory Committee on Data

“As part of the Federal Data Strategy, the Department of Commerce is looking for experts to help Federal agencies use their data for decisionmaking as part of the newly formed Advisory Committee on Data for Evidence Building, according to an upcoming Federal Register post.”

Both the Federal Data Strategy and Foundations for Evidence-Based “Policymaking Act establish the requirement for the advisory committee, which will provide recommendation on data sharing, privacy, and data usage. The committee will advise the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and a joint team from both Commerce and OMB will select the members of the committee.”

“The Advisory Committee will review, analyze, and make recommendations on how to promote the use of Federal data for evidence building,” the notice states.

The Federal Register post, set to be finalized on November 6, establishes the committee and opens nominations for membership until December 4. At least 10 non-Federal members will be appointed and serve alongside one CIO, three CDOs, and nine other Federal officials, including the Chief Statistician of the United States.” Read the full article here.
